SBBS: Day 13 ~ Victoria Scott

Spring Break Blog Spectacular: Victoria Scott Interview

Victoria Scott's debut YA novel, The Collector comes out next year, but her short story Four Houses is already available as an ebook. A member of Team Shiver, Victoria lives in Texas.

Ideal spring break destination: ski chalet or tropical beach villa?
Tropical beach villa for sure. I don't do snow. What if there's a snow storm? What would I do? Die. That's what. This is how I think of snow: lethal. Being in Texas, snow is the most terrifying thing in the world, next to monkeys.

In high school/college which was more likely spotting you on MTV’s Spring Break or just you and your friends enjoying the week off?
Oh, God. MTV for sure. That's all I can say about that.

What was your favorite Spring Break ever (where and/or why)? Or if you didn't go on spring break trips, where did you always want to go?
Favorite Spring Break trip ever, hands down, was one where me and five friends drove this busted-ass pop-up camper to South Padre and parked in on the beach for 5 days. It was so fun...and kinda hazy. Turns out my BF cheated on me on that trip. I found out after, or there would've been a Spring Break body count.

Fly and have the fun be at the destination or road trip and have the journey be at least half the fun?
Road trip for sure. I love packing up the car and getting on the highway, the wind in my hair.

Do/would any of your characters take Spring Break trips?
Not in my book, but I like to think they go on Spring Break while I sleep and/or after edits are over. They probably party pretty hard.

Where would their ideal Spring Break destination be? (Together or on their own.)
Hmmm, Dante's ideal Spring Break spot would be somewhere wild and sexy. I'll go with Cancun, Mexico.

Which of your characters (in The Collector, Four Houses, or anything upcoming) would you most have liked to have met on a Spring Break trip?
It'd be pretty friggin' awesome to have met Dante Walker from The Collector on Spring Break. Then again, if I had, I'd probably have an eight-year-old now. Just sayin'.

Best book to read on Spring Break or a road trip?
I'm going to go with Loose Girl by Kerry Cohen. It'd serve as a great read, and a good example on what NOT to do on SB.
Thanks! That was so much fun! :)

Thank you Victoria (and Entagled Publishing)!

Victoria's short story Four Houses is available now (from B&N or Amazon- or you can add it on Goodreads) and her debut YA novel, The Collector will be released next year by Entangled Publishing.

About Four Houses:
The door in front of me is the ugliest shade of plum I've ever seen. It's a prune Grandma would eat, a raisin on its last leg, a swollen bruise in the most inconvenient of places.

The waiting is the worst part, wondering who will open the door. But this time the waiting is killing me, tearing me down piece by piece and devouring me with its insatiable jaws.

I bite my lip and raise my hand to knock.

A young girl faced with four choices, must make a decision that will forever haunt her.

About The Collector:
Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence has made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple, weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag.

Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal opportunity collector and doesn’t want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:

Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within 10 days.

Dante doesn’t know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky, Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect—he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector, and uncover emotions deeply buried.

Anyone else more of the MTV Spring Break variety? Is there 2013 book you're looking forward to (besides The Collector, of course)?
