SBBS: Day 13 ~ Corrine Jackson

Spring Break Blog Spectacular ~ Corrine Jackson Interview & Giveaway

As today is the middle of Spring Break Blog Spectacular, there are two guests (!!), our second guest today is Corrine Jackson. Corrine has two books out this year, If I Lie being released in August by Simon Pulse and Touched out in November from Kensington Teen.

Interview:

Ideal spring break destination: ski chalet or tropical beach villa?
Oh, tropical beach villa! I prefer flipflops over ski boots. Also, I’ve only been skiing once, and my method of stopping my descent down the hill was to sit on my bum and slide about 40 feet amidst much laughter (my own and that of those waiting to embark on the ski lift), so I’m not a fan of the whole winter wonderland sports scene. But mostly, it’s the flipflops.

In high school/college which was more likely spotting you on MTV’s Spring Break or just you and your friends savoring the week off?

More likely, it was my friends and I savoring the week off, which consisted of lots of reading and mocking the people on MTV’s Spring Break.

What was your favorite Spring Break ever (where and/or why)? Or if you didn't go on Spring Break trips, where did you always want to go?

My family went camping at the beach for Spring Break quite a few times. We’d head to Lake Havasu, Dohini or Pismo. Our parents let us run wild on the beach. We had terrible sunburns, sand everywhere, and our waterski boat was always broken down. Ah, family vacation!

Fly and have the fun be at the destination or road trip and have the journey be at least half the fun?

I kind of hate being trapped in places for long stretches of time. I’d rather fly and be done with the travel. Also, I’m lucky because I’m a plane narcoleptic. Often I fall asleep before the plane even takes off. It’s rather convenient, actually. “Ladies and gentlemen, the Captain has turned on the Fasten Seat Belt si---zzzzzzzzzzzz.”

Do any of your characters take Spring Break trips?

Nope. For some reason, I focus on Winter and Summer and skip over spring altogether.

Where would their ideal Spring Break destination be? (Together or on their own.)

In IF I LIE, I think Quinn’s ideal getaway would be anywhere where people wouldn’t know her. She has a terrible time in the book, and I can’t really blame her. In TOUCHED, Remy would want to stay home. She’d want to hangout with her family and friends. Her first sixteen Spring Breaks were very lonely, so she savors having people around.

Which of your characters (in If I Lie or anything you’re working on) would you most have liked to have met on a Spring Break trip?

George from IF I LIE. He seems like he’d be hilarious to hang out with on Spring Break. I think he would get me into trouble, but I’d be laughing about it and telling the stories twenty years later.

Best book to read on Spring Break or a road trip?

I love romance novels. I read YA all the time, but when I’m vacationing I like to re-read Jennifer Crusie. I find her hilarious and she has dialogue I could read for days. My favorite is Bet Me, although Welcome to Temptation and Crazy for You are close seconds.

more about If I Lie:

A powerful debut novel about the gray space between truth and perception.

Quinn’s done the unthinkable: she kissed a guy who is not Carey, her boyfriend. And she got caught. Being branded a cheater would be bad enough, but Quinn is deemed a traitor, and shunned by all of her friends. Because Carey’s not just any guy—he’s serving in Afghanistan and revered by everyone in their small, military town.

Quinn could clear her name, but that would mean revealing secrets that she’s vowed to keep—secrets that aren’t hers to share. And when Carey goes MIA, Quinn must decide how far she’ll go to protect her boyfriend…and her promise.

  1. I really don't have a "go to" genre when I'm on vacation. I would happily read a telephone book if I was somewhere relaxing. :-)
