SBBS: Day 05 ~ Kristen Simmons

Spring Break Blog Spectacular: Day 05 ~ Kristen Simmons Interview & Giveaway

Today’s guest is Kristen Simmons, her debut novel, Article 5 came out this winter, January 31st. I LOVED it  (and cannot wait for more) – you can find my review hereso I’m thrilled to have her taking part in my Spring Break event . . . and offering giveaways, too!

Author Interview:

Ideal spring break destination: ski chalet or tropical beach villa?

A ski chalet! Not that I'd do any skiing, but I live in Florida, so I see the beaches quite a bit. I grew up in the mountains and love the idea of snuggling up by the fireplace with hot cocoa.

In high school/college which was more likely spotting you on MTV’s Spring Break or just you and your friends enjoying the week off?

Ha! Not on MTV's Spring Break. Although possibly pretending that we were cool enough to be...

What was your favorite Spring Break ever? Or if you didn't go on spring break trips, where did you always want to go?

DISNEYLAND! Some friends and I totally met up at Disney one year in high school. It was magical.

Fly and have the fun be at the destination or road trip and have the journey be at least half the fun?

There is something about a road trip that's really appealing. My husband and I love taking road trips, we have ever since we were in high school (we'd sneak over state lines and drive to California for sports games or In N Out Burgers). We had (and still have) certain road trip songs we'd listen to and certain snacks we'd buy. The road trip was the fun, the destination was just a perk.

Do any of your  characters take Spring Break trips? (Or in Article 5's case,
know of Spring Break?)

LOL - I think Ember's spring break would consist of running for her life from the Federal Bureau of Reformation. Chase's spring break, of course, would consist of finding Ember and protecting her from all the dangers of the known world.

Where would their ideal Spring Break destination be? (Together or on their own.)

If life was different, and Chase and Ember could take a vacation, I think they'd hit up that ski chalet you mentioned. Quiet, off the radar, very snuggly and romantic. Yeah, I think they'd like that.

Which of your characters (in Article 5 or anything upcoming) would you most have liked to have met on a Spring Break trip?

Sean! I think Sean has the potential to be a lot of fun. You know, when he's not fearing for his life and all.

Best book to read on Spring Break or a road trip?

I LOVE romance novels on spring breaks! Something where you know the sexy guy is going to get the hot girl. Old Nora Roberts books are the best!

Thanks for letting me visit! This was fun!
Thank you, Kristen!

about ARTICLE 5:
New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., have been abandoned.

The Bill of Rights has been revoked, and replaced with the Moral Statutes.

There are no more police—instead, there are soldiers. There are no more fines for bad behavior—instead, there are arrests, trials, and maybe worse. People who get arrested usually don't come back.

Seventeen-year-old Ember Miller is old enough to remember that things weren't always this way. Living with her rebellious single mother, it's hard for her to forget that people weren't always arrested for reading the wrong books or staying out after dark. It's hard to forget that life in the United States used to be different.

Ember has perfected the art of keeping a low profile. She knows how to get the things she needs, like food stamps and hand-me-down clothes, and how to pass the random home inspections by the military. Her life is as close to peaceful as circumstances allow.

That is, until her mother is arrested for noncompliance with Article 5 of the Moral Statutes. And one of the arresting officers is none other than Chase Jennings—the only boy Ember has ever loved.

  10. I live in two countries, does that count? :P I've been pretty much everywhere in Australia but Queensland, which I would love to travel around, simply because of how vast and different it is! Tropical paradise on one side and then the outback heat on the other!
