Thursday 13

13 Books I'm Glad I Don't Live In

(They're Imaginative and Engrossing [for the most part] . . . But I'd Hate to Live There For Real!)

  1. Article 5 by Kristen Simmons (hoping to get that review up later today if my migraine lets up - otherwise tomorrow am)
  2. Hunger Games series
  3. Eve by Anna Carey
  4. Bumped by Megan McCafferty
  5. Divergent by Veronica Roth
  6. Roboapocalypse by David H Wilson
  7. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
  8. Memento Nora by Angie Smibert
  9. Unwind by Neal Shusterman
  10. Incarceron by Catherine Fisher
  11. The Chosen One by Carol Lynch WIlliams
  12. The Awakening by Kate Chopin (I LOVE this book - but I think the lack of women's lib would bring me down . .. along with the character's overall feeling)
  13. The Scarlet Letter (again with the women's lib and also, I don't like this book -sorry)

(Thursday 13 is hosted here)

  1. This is a unique idea. Really something to think about, living the life of characters. I like your list.

    1. Thank you! While I was reading Article 5 (my review) I realized I absolutely loved it - but would not want to live like the characters and realized that was probably true of other books as well :)

Thanks for taking the time to comment

  2. I have not read any of them but the Scarlet Letter. There are several books I have read that I would not like to live in the Road by Cormac McCarthy for one! great idea.

    1. Thanks :)

I have read (or am reading all of them) . . . my reading Article 5 (my review) was what brought the idea about. I haven't read the Road, though I do plan to someday.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  3. What a fantastic idea for a book lover! I recently read a biography of Abraham Lincoln and found myself thinking -- no wonder Mary Lincoln went nuts, living in a world like that! Women had to wear all those petticoats and mittens even in summer, and there was no AC. When she was perimenopausal she suffered terrible migraines and bleeding and there were no meds and even discussion about her "condition" was discouraged. So I completely get/appreciate your idea here!

    1. Thank you!! Having migraines myself, I've often thought about the lack of medicine (and all the things they thought about women who suffered from just about anything) when reading historical non/fiction - not fun!

  4. Out of these I've only read The Scarlet Letter - and I wouldn't have wanted to live in that period, either.

Another book with a setting where I wouldn't want to live is The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. Terrifying - especially as a woman.

    1. The Handmaid's Tale is one of those books I've always meant to read . . . ;)

Seems a lot of books really would not have been great for women to have been in (then obviously, but also us looking back at).

  5. Would you believe I've only read The Scarlet Letter of the ones on this list? I do plan to read the Hunger Games series... Good list, though...

    1. Quite a few of them - not Roboapocalypse or The Awakening, I know - are Young Adult books . .. . Neal Shusterman's books are great for adults, too. And The Chosen One is maybe the only non-clasic on there that's not at all paranormal/dystopian/anything-like-that ;)

Thanks for visiting Book Sp(l)ot Reviews and commenting!

  6. Fun idea for a list! I haven't thought about that when reading books, but now I probably will! Mostly I am glad to live NOW.

Thanks for stopping by Sweet Tea and Sunshine!

    1. Thank you! Reading Article 5 was what made me think about it first (great book, but would *not* want to live there!).
